Set in the rural landscape of Des Moines, this project involved the careful rehabilitation of a barn, reimagined as a single-family residence. The design preserves the barn’s distinctive exterior character— its original form and materials —while transforming the interior into a light-filled, contemporary home suited for modern living.

The architectural approach focused on honoring the barn’s agricultural heritage. The exterior envelope was restored with minimal alterations, maintaining the silhouette and cladding that define its historic identity. Inside, the space was opened up to create a flowing, functional layout, integrating exposed timber framing with new finishes and systems that reflect a clean aesthetic.
